A Dream Wedding at The Gem in Canmore: Why I Love This Venue

As a wedding photographer, I’m always on the lookout for venues that bring out the best in my couples and their love stories, and The Gem does exactly that. From bright, airy getting-ready spaces to epic mountain backdrops and an intimate yet elegant reception area, this venue is a dream come true.

Let’s walk through Stephanie & Richard’s wedding day at The Gem to show you exactly why this venue is so special.

Getting Ready at MNT HOUSE

The day started in The Gem’s bright, modern getting-ready suites, which are an absolute gift for photographers (hello, natural light!). Stephanie and her bridesmaids popped champagne while getting their hair and makeup done, while Richard and his groomsmen relaxed and shared a few celebratory toasts.

These suites are spacious, beautifully designed, and—most importantly—set the stage for capturing those emotional pre-ceremony moments.

First Look & Portraits at The Gem

Stephanie and Richard decided to do their first look at The Gem, and it was nothing short of magical. The venue’s huge floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the space with light, creating the perfect setting for this intimate moment. The way they looked at each other? Pure magic.

We then took advantage of The Gem’s modern architecture for some indoor portraits before heading out for bridal party photos.

Bridal Party & Outdoor Portraits

With Canmore’s breathtaking scenery right outside, we didn’t have to go far for some incredible mountain-view photos. Rundleview Parkette, just a quick drive away, gave us wide-open views of the Rockies—a picture-perfect setting for bridal party and couple portraits.

This is one of the reasons I love The Gem so much: you get the best of both worlds—a stylish, modern venue and easy access to jaw-dropping natural landscapes.

Ceremony at Rundleview Parkette

Stephanie and Richard chose to have their ceremony outdoors at Rundleview Parkette, and honestly? It was stunning.

With the mountains as their backdrop, they exchanged vows in front of family and friends while the wind carried their words through the trees. It was simple, elegant, and exactly what a romantic mountain wedding should be.

Cocktail Hour at the Gem

After the ceremony, guests made their way back to The Gem for cocktail hour. One of the best things about this space is its modern opal bar —it makes for a perfect spot to mingle, enjoy a drink, and soak in the beauty of the day!

Reception: A Stylish, Intimate Celebration

The reception took place in The Gem’s gorgeous dining area, which blends modern elegance with cozy mountain vibes. Since The Gem allows couples to bring in their own caterers, Stephanie and Richard were able to choose a menu that was totally theirs—and let me tell you, the food was amazing.

With heartfelt speeches, a beautiful first dance, and a packed dance floor, the night was filled with love, laughter, and celebration.

Sunset Photos: Golden Hour Perfection

One of the best parts of any Canmore wedding? Sunset photos!

We snuck out for a few golden-hour shots, and WOW—the mountains, the soft light, and the pure joy radiating from these two made for the most beautiful portraits. If you’re getting married at The Gem, I highly recommend making time for sunset photos.

The Party: Dancing the Night Away

To end the night, Stephanie and Richard’s guests hit the dance floor at The Opal Bar, The Gem’s stylish mezzanine-level lounge. With craft cocktails flowing and an epic playlist keeping the energy high, the party lasted well into the night.
