Becca & Owen’s Spring Banff Elopement at Lake Minnewanka

There is something incredibly special about spring in Banff. It’s that beautiful in-between season where winter hasn’t quite let go, but summer is slowly beginning to make its way into the mountains. Snow still blankets the peaks, the lakes are beginning to thaw, and the entire landscape feels fresh with new beginnings. It couldn’t have been a more fitting backdrop for Becca and Owen’s intimate Banff elopement.

The day began in Canmore, where they got ready surrounded by excitement and anticipation. Before heading into the national park, they shared a quiet first look in downtown Canmore. After taking a few moments to soak it all in together, we wandered to a few nearby pathways that held personal meaning for them. With the iconic Three Sisters standing tall in the background, it was the perfect place to slow down and capture the beginning of their wedding day.

From there, we made our way to Lake Minnewanka, where twenty of their closest family and friends were waiting. One of my favourite parts of photographing ceremonies at Lake Minnewanka is finding the perfect ceremony location together. Rather than using the same spot every time, we explored the shoreline until we found a beautiful pebbled beach with uninterrupted views across the lake and the surrounding mountains. It felt completely secluded and perfectly suited to the intimate celebration they had envisioned.

Their ceremony, officiated by Cole Hofstra, was heartfelt, relaxed, and filled with laughter. It felt less like a formal event and more like everyone had gathered together for an unforgettable afternoon in the mountains. After they exchanged vows and officially became husband and wife, everyone celebrated with champagne toasts, hugs, and family photos along the lakeshore.

Once their guests headed off to dinner, we stayed behind to enjoy the quiet evening light around Lake Minnewanka. Without any rush, Becca and Owen simply explored the shoreline together, taking in the incredible scenery and soaking up those first moments as newlyweds.

Before wrapping up the day, we made one final stop at nearby Two Jack Lake. Just a few minutes from Lake Minnewanka, it offers a completely different perspective of the mountains and is one of my favourite locations to pair with a Lake Minnewanka ceremony. The calm water, mountain reflections, and peaceful atmosphere created the perfect ending to an already unforgettable day.

Spring is such an underrated season for a Banff elopement. The snowy mountain peaks create incredible contrast against the thawing turquoise lakes, the locations are quieter than the busy summer months, and every landscape feels like it’s coming back to life.
