Couple Laughing while saying their vows

Your guide to the perfect ceremony Vows

As a wedding photographer I can assure you that personal vows hold special meaning to a wedding or elopement day. They add a unique and special element thats specific to your commitment to one another.

Some may find that public speaking – in particular emotional pubic speaking – is a daunting task. But you do not have to share your vows with each other during your ceremony! You can share them with one another before or after privately – and believe me you want photos of it!

For others – your vows are a great opportunity to share with friends and family some of those unique traits your partner has that made you fall in love with them to begin with! This could be great time to make each other laugh – and nothing pairs as good with laughter than a few happy tears. This is happiest day after all!

There are many reasons why I think personal vows are so important – but here are some of my top reasons why you should write personal vows to share with one another on your day:

1. Expressing your unique relationship: Personal vows can help you and your partner express your unique love and commitment to each other. By writing your own vows, you can include personal stories, inside jokes, and shared experiences that are meaningful to you and your partner, and that might not be captured in traditional wedding vows.

2. Creating a meaningful moment: Writing and reciting personal vows can also create a special and memorable moment in your wedding ceremony. It can be a powerful and emotional experience to publicly declare your love and commitment to your partner in your own words, in front of your family and friends.

3. Reflecting on your relationship: Taking the time to write your own vows can also be an opportunity for reflection and introspection. By thinking about what you want to say to your partner, you can deepen your understanding of your relationship and the promises you want to make to each other.

4. Making a lasting commitment: Personal vows can also serve as a tangible reminder of the promises you make to each other on your wedding day. You can keep a copy of your vows to look back on throughout your marriage, and to remind yourselves of the love and commitment you share.

Writing personal wedding vows can seem like a daunting task, but with some guidance, it can be a meaningful and rewarding experience. Here are some steps to consider when writing your own personal wedding vows:

Start by reading some examples of personal wedding vows. This can help you get a sense of what others have written, and give you some inspiration for your own vows.

Reflect on your relationship with your partner. What are some of the qualities that you love about them? What are some of the experiences that you have shared together? What are some of the promises you want to make to each other?

Consider the tone and style of your vows. Do you want to keep it simple and heartfelt, or do you want to incorporate humor or poetry? Do you want to structure your vows around a theme or a story?

Write a rough draft of your vows. Start by jotting down some ideas and phrases that come to mind, and then work on refining them into a cohesive statement. Don’t worry about getting it perfect on the first try; you can always edit and revise as you go.

Practice reciting your vows out loud. This can help you get comfortable with the language and tone of your vows, and ensure that you can deliver them confidently on your wedding day.

Make sure your vows are appropriate for the occasion. While personal vows can be a great way to express your love and commitment to your partner, they should still be respectful and appropriate for a wedding ceremony.

Remember, your personal wedding vows are an opportunity to express your unique love and commitment to your partner, so don’t be afraid to make them personal and meaningful to you. Good luck!
