There’s something incredibly special about a wedding day that feels relaxed, intentional, and completely focused on what matters most. Leanne and James’ wedding at Stewart Creek in Canmore was exactly that—a beautiful celebration surrounded by mountains, close friends, family, and some truly unforgettable fall light.
From a joyful morning at The Malcolm Hotel to sunset portraits beneath the Three Sisters, every part of their day felt genuine and full of emotion.
Getting Ready & A Tearful First Look with Mom
The morning began at The Malcolm Hotel in Canmore where Leanne got ready alongside her closest friends. The atmosphere was exactly what every wedding morning should be—filled with laughter, excitement, and just enough nervous energy to make everything feel real.
The talented team at Makeup by Mylynn helped everyone look and feel their best, and before long it was time to slip into the dress.
One of the most emotional moments of the entire day happened before the ceremony when Leanne shared a first look with her mom. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as they embraced and took in the significance of the day together. It was one of those moments that reminds everyone what weddings are really about.
Afterward, the girls gathered for a quick champagne toast—a perfect way to celebrate and calm the pre-ceremony nerves before heading to Stewart Creek.
Ceremony at Stewart Creek's Tent & Family Photos
Stewart Creek remains one of my favourite wedding venues in Canmore, and it’s easy to see why. Surrounded by mountain views in every direction, it creates an incredible backdrop without needing much else.
Leanne and James exchanged vows beneath the tent surrounded by their family and friends. I always love when couples choose to write personal vows, and theirs were heartfelt, meaningful, and had everyone reaching for tissues.
The ceremony florals by Flower Chix were absolutely stunning. Instead of large installations that compete with the scenery, they opted for elegant ground arrangements that beautifully framed the ceremony space while allowing the mountain views to remain the star of the show.
Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone for family photographs before sneaking away for some portraits while guests enjoyed cocktail hour.
Portraits at the Iconic Three Sisters Viewpoint
One of the advantages of a smaller, relaxed wedding timeline is being able to step away and enjoy a quiet moment together.
We made the short trip to the iconic Three Sisters Viewpoint, and somehow had the entire location to ourselves. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. As the sun dipped lower behind the mountains, it cast that dreamy golden fall light across the landscape.
With the Three Sisters towering in the background and the colours of autumn surrounding us, it felt like the perfect representation of a Canmore wedding day.
These were some of my favourite portraits of the season—simple, natural, and completely focused on Leanne and James enjoying a few moments together as newlyweds.
A Quick Reception & Private Cake Cutting
As the evening settled in, I returned to the reception to capture a few final moments before wrapping up coverage.
One of those moments was a private cake cutting, which I always love. It gives couples a chance to slow down and enjoy a small part of the celebration together before the party truly begins.
Shortly afterward, Leanne and James made their entrance into the reception where they were welcomed by cheering family and friends, ready to celebrate the night away.
It was the perfect ending to a wedding day that felt intimate, emotional, and uniquely theirs.
