Sunset hikes
If you have chosen to do one, the actual first look is easy and not time-consuming at all. I will set you up for a successful first look and give you instructions so those photos turn out the best and most candid they can possibly be! This is an intimate moment and I encourage my couples to do this privately so they can express their true excitement and emotions without an audience.
Travel to and from a location for your first look may need to be factored in depending on where you would like it to be, some couples also choose to do a set of portraits during this time – feel free to chat with me about it!
Sunrise Hikes
Typically men do not take as long as women to get ready – therefore don’t need as much time. 10 Minutes for detail shots (Tie, Boutonnière, Shoes, Rings, Watch, Cologne) is ideal. I do like to take photos of the groom doing final touches of hair etc in the mirror. 20 minutes for any interactions with groomsmen and “cheers”-ing of drinks. Its nice for groomsmen to be together for the final touches of getting ready – putting on jackets, shoes, boutonierres. Encourage a family member (Mom or Dad or Brother) or a groomsman to be present to put on your boutonierre!
How to include Guests who don't Hike
Including non-hiking guests in your hiking elopement is a thoughtful way to make everyone feel included without compromising the nature of your adventure. Here are two ways to do it:
Pre-Hike Gathering or Post-Hike Celebration
- Before the Hike: Organize a short gathering or mini ceremony at the trailhead or a nearby scenic location that doesn’t require hiking. This way, your non-hiking guests can still witness the ceremony and enjoy the beauty of nature without needing to trek.
- After the Hike: Plan a casual reception or dinner at a nearby lodge, cabin, or scenic spot where your guests can gather and celebrate with you once you’ve finished your hike. This could include formal ceremony, toasts, and a relaxed social time to share the joy of your day.
Video or Photo Livestream
- Livestream the Ceremony: Set up a phone or camera at the ceremony site to stream or record the moment for your non-hiking guests. You can share the video afterward or even offer them a live stream so they can “attend” from wherever they are. This lets them experience the special moment even if they aren’t physically present.
